CUTTY SARK

The name ‘Cutty Sark’ was inspired by the fastest and most famous of all the Scottish-built clipper ships, launched in 1869. The clipper was named after a young witch dressed in a ‘Cutty Sark’ or short shirt, who could run as fast as the wind, from the famous poem Tam O’Shanter by Scotland’s celebrated poet Robert Burns. The ‘Cutty Sark’ is now permanently moored at Greenwich, London.

Cutty Sark was the first light coloured whisky in the world. It was created in 1923 by the partners of Berry Bros and Rudd, the established wine and spirit merchants, who believed in quality and innovation.

One of the most acclaimed blended whiskies of the world, Cutty Sark has remained largely unchanged since its inception. Around 20 single malt whiskies are selected for the blend, many of them from the renowned distilleries of Speyside, giving richness, elegance and the fruity, honeyed notes associated with the cradle of single malt production.

The wood for the oak casks is carefully selected to bring out the characteristic flavour and aroma of each whisky in the Cutty Sark blend and to impart colour gently during long maturation.

The taste of Cutty Sark is refreshingly different. It has a fragrant aroma with hints of vanilla and oak. Smooth and fresh on the palate with a crisp clean finish.

Since the 1920s quality has been at the core of the brand. During Prohibition, it gave rise to the expression ‘the real McCoy’ which remains a synonym for integrity and authenticity.
